Dear Eagle Scout:

CONGRATULATIONS on becoming an “EAGLE SCOUT” with the Green Mountain Council, Boys Scouts of America.

Department Commander Leonard Normandeau would like to inform you that The American Legion offers a prestigious `EAGLE SCOUT OF THE YEAR” Scholarship.  You may be eligible to participate

Enclosed you will find two applications for the scholarship.  One application will be used for Eagle Scouts that have completed their “Boy Scout” Religious Award.  The other application is for Eagle Scouts that have NOT completed the religious award.  You will need to REVIEW THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIRMENTS on both applications and select the appropriate one.  Only one application needs to be completed.

Applications will be accepted at Department Headquarters until the close of business on MARCH 1, 2008.  The selected candidate for Vermont will receive a $1,000 Scholarship and with his parents will be honored at the Department of Vermont Convention Banquet, to be held in Brattleboro, Vermont on June 20, 2008.

Your application may also be selected for National consideration.  If selected by the Vermont Committee, your application will be forwarded to Indianapolis, and you will compete for an additional scholarship of $10,000.  The National “Eagle Scout of the Year” will be invited to the National Convention to be held in Phoenix Arizona, August 22-28, 2008.  WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY!  Applications are judged by a committee for completeness/neatness…..!

Please review both applications, paying special attention to the eligibility requirements.  Take the time to follow the instructions and complete the proper application.  Complete and timely submission of your application is very important.

If there are any additional questions about the scholarship process, please feel free to contact Committee Chairman Frank Killay at 802-584-3160.  You may also call Kathy at Department Headquarters at (802) 223-7131.  There are no exceptions on the eligibility requirements!!!  Our interest is to get the word out to our Eagle Scouts, providing each scout with the opportunity to apply.

GOOD LUCK, if you decide to participate.

Sincerely,
Frank Killay
Boy Scout Committee Chairman
